Photos: Torbay Carnival hailed a sparkling success

Miss Torbay, dancers, singers, fireworks and, of course, Father Christmas - Torbay Carnival and Paignton Festival had the lot

From fireworks and bonny babies to classic cars and samba bands. And, goes without saying, Santa Claus.

This year's Torbay Carnival/Paignton Festival had everything and has been hailed an outstanding success.

Live bands and acts provided the night-time entertainment on Paignton Green where thousands also enjoyed a sparkling fireworks display. There was an egg and spoon race and a guest appearance from Patrick the Pony among the events.

The main attraction was the Spinning Wheel-sponsored-carnival procession through the streets of Paignton with an array of community floats taking part including Brownies and Scouts, Sound Communities, fire engines, netball teams and, of course, Miss Torbay.

Carnival chairman Mike Bailey and his band of volunteers won special praise for their hard work.

One by-stander said: "Great to see so many enjoying themselves from so many local groups. The volunteers who run the Festival deserve a big thank you for their efforts and great to see Mike Bailey leading the procession."
