Big month at Newton Abbot Racecourse promises fun, racing and free pints of tribute

August is shaping up to be a fantastic and busy month at the racecourse, with a series of exciting events for all ages.

This begins with the Newton Abbot Country Show on Saturday 9 August a brilliant family day out packed with entertainment. From a lively Dog Show and Archery to bouncy castles and Shetland pony rides, there's something for everyone. With over 70 indoor and outdoor stalls to browse, it's a day not to be missed. Tickets are just £6 for adults when booked in advance (or £8 on the day), and children go free.

On Thursday 21 August, our much-loved family fun racing fixture returns. Blaze the mascot will be joining the festivities, along with attractions like Hook a Duck, bouncy castles and a face painter. The racing action includes a thrilling schedule of seven races throughout the day. We’re also proud to welcome members of the Armed Forces to this event, with representatives from the Royal Air Force in attendance. Serving personnel and veterans can enjoy a 50 per cent discount on gate tickets by presenting their MOD90 card.

The excitement continues on Saturday 30 August, with another great day of racing. We’re delighted to be joined by the Devon Air Ambulance, who will be on-site raising awareness and funds for their vital charity. As a Saturday fixture, we’re offering a complimentary bus service from Newton Abbot train station to the racecourse for added convenience.

This day is sponsored by St Austell Brewery, who are treating guests to a free pint of Tribute between 12:15 pm and 1:15 pm, just as the gates open. The first race begins at 2:15 pm, with six exhilarating races planned, making it the perfect day out for friends and family alike.

As part of National Racehorse week we are delighted to welcome a retired racehorse superstar Frodon. With Bryony Frost as his jockey he won at the Cheltenham Festival twice and the King George in 2020. He finished his career with 19 wins over 17 chases and two over hurdles.

To end a great day, why not stay and enjoy the live band Harbour who will be performing in the Paddock Suite straight after the last race.  A great way to make wonderful memories.
