The Torbay Half Marathon and 10K has raised an incredible £55,000 for Rowcroft Hospice, thanks to the efforts of 287 runners who laced up in the charity’s colours.
Among them were three competitors dressed as dinosaurs, cheered on by crowds as thousands of athletes pounded the pavements of Paignton and Torquay. The hospice, which provides specialist end-of-life care for people across South Devon, described the support as “truly amazing.”
“To every awesome person who ran for Rowcroft in Sunday’s Torbay Half Marathon & 10k – THANK YOU. Your grit, determination and fundraising all added up to something truly amazing. Together, you raised a fabulous £55,000,” the charity said in a message to its supporters.
The money will go directly towards funding expert care for people living with life-limiting illnesses, helping to meet the hospice’s £11 million annual running costs, of which only a quarter comes from the NHS.

On the course itself, Shaun Dixon took first place in the Half Marathon in 1:11:28, followed by Thomas Wraight (1:14:28) and Alex Sparks (1:14:39). Local runners also shone, with Exeter Harriers’ Callum Crawford finishing fifth in 1:14:51 and Torbay Tri’s Naomi Flanagan coming home as the first woman, 30th overall in 1:23:56.
More than 4,000 runners joined this year’s event after last year’s cancellation due to bad weather. Organisers confirmed that entries are now open for next year’s race on Sunday 20 September 2026.
