Next week a local wheelchair basketball player is looking to achieve 100k in 7 days’.

Student Joel Clifton, from Brixham, is undertaking a week of arduous sports and fitness challenges to raise money for his wheelchair basketball club.

He will be attempting to secure a cumulative score of 100,000 through four different sporting and fitness events, over a seven day period, starting on Monday 25th July.

The challenge will comprise of scoring 10,000 basketball points, completing 20,000 metres on a rowing machine, 30,000 metres pushing a wheelchair and 40,000 kilogrammes lifted in the gym. All tasks complement the skills, strengths and disciplines required in wheelchair basketball.

Joel estimates shooting the basketball points will take him ’15 hours alone on court, over two or hours a day. Basketball every day then something else in the morning and afternoon alongside eating, sleeping and training for a seven day period.’

The challenges will be undertaken in and around the community of Brixham with the use of Brixham College’s sports hall, a local gym and even Brixham Breakwater for the wheelchair push.

You can follow Joel Clifton on social media where he will be uploading video logs of the event’s progress. And he has a GoFundMe page, ‘100K in 7 Days Fundraiser for Plymouth Fusion WBC.’

Plymouth Fusion has provided Joel and many other young people with essential first class opportunities to play sport, develop friendships and social networks with like-minded people. Which he says has been essential for his physical and mental health and well-being.

All donations will go towards court hire for training sessions for national league teams, juniors, women’s league and newcomers. Travelling costs for games across the country. Purchase of kits, balls and sports wheelchairs for new players and various other club running costs.
