Torbay MP Steve Darling and local residents have delivered a powerful message to Health Secretary Wes Streeting claiming Torbay Hospital is at ‘breaking point.’

Mr Darling unveiled a giant open letter to Minister Streeting in Paignton Town Centre signed by members of the community.

The letter calls for urgent action in three key areas:

  • A personal visit to Torbay Hospital to witness the deteriorating estate and the mounting challenges facing local health services.
  • Protection of cardiac and acute services at Torbay Hospital, opposing any plans to relocate them elsewhere.
  • Immediate reversal of the delay to the £350 million hospital rebuild, which is vital for delivering safe and effective care to the people of Torbay and South Devon.

Mr Darling and his team invited local residents to add their signatures to the oversized letter, which was displayed prominently in Paignton to highlight the strength of public feeling.

He said: “Torbay Hospital is at breaking point. The government must act now to protect vital services and invest in the future of our local healthcare.

“This letter shows just how strongly our community feels. We need urgent support—not empty promises.”

An online version of the letter is now available for residents to sign at https://www.torbaylibdems.org.uk/campaigns/sign-steves-open-letter-to-the-health-secretary
