Road works will see temporary road closure and bus service changes at one of Torbay’s busiest roads.

Next week Torbay Council will be carrying out essential resurfacing and reconstruction works on Goodrington Road in three phases:

Palm Tree View to Gibson Road – closed on October 13 and 14 for resurfacing.

Gibson Road to Grange Road – closed from October 20 to December 19 for reconstruction to a depth of half a metre. This will be done in two phases (either side of Stabb Drive) to maintain access.

Goodrington Road will be open as normal between the first and second phase of works (Wednesday October 15 to Sunday October 19.

Once complete, the entire length of Goodrington Road will have been resurfaced or reconstructed. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.

Due to the road closure, several bus services will be diverted. Stagecoach has worked closely with Torbay Council’s Highways team to reduce disruption for passengers.

For the full duration of the works, the following services will not serve Goodrington Road:

Service 80 (South Devon College to Paignton Bus Station)

Service 120 (Paignton Bus Station to Kingswear Banjo)

Phase one: Palm Tree View to Davies Avenue

Service 23 (Paignton to South Devon College) will divert via Cherry Brook Drive.

It will not serve Goodrington Road, Davies Avenue, or Gibson Road.

Passengers should use stops on Hookhills Road or Cherry Brook Drive.

Alternatively, use:

Service 22 (South Devon College to St Marychurch) from Grange Road

Service 13 (Torbay Hospital to Brixham) from Davies Avenue or Gibson Road

Upon the completion of phase one, Goodrington Road will reopen until the beginning of phase two.

Phase two: Grange Road to Stabb Drive

This phase is expected to begin the week commencing Monday October 20, and last for four weeks. Work will then begin to reconstruct the Stabb Drive to Gibson Road section of Goodrington Road.

Once phase one is complete, Service 23 will return to its usual route.

Service 22 will operate normally from Paignton Town Centre to Grange Road.

It will then divert through Grange Heights Road, Roselands Drive, Brixham Road, and rejoin at Long Road.

Passengers travelling to Paignton Town Centre must board the service heading towards the College.

This may result in arrival times at South Devon College being approximately five to ten minutes later than usual.
