Services Design Solution (SDS) has been making waves in Torbay with its steadfast dedication to social value. With a focus on community enrichment and sustainable practices, the sustainable building services consultancy is actively involved in initiatives that uplift and support the local community.
One such initiative is the monthly sponsorship of the Ellacombe Community Garden, a vital hub for residents to come together, learn new skills, and cultivate a sense of belonging.
Sarah O'Connor, coordinator at Ellacombe Community Partnership, expressed her gratitude: "The Ellacombe Community Partnership would like to give a huge thank you to SDS for their kind support of our community garden. Their donation will help us build our growing garden and develop a community space where people of all ages and abilities can learn new skills, cultivate food, participate in activities, and meet in a safe outdoor space.
"Our project is just beginning and will develop into a much-needed resource for our community in the coming months. None of this would be possible without funding and donations, and the continued contributions of SDS mean that we can plan and take steps to constantly improve and expand the garden as an engaging and vibrant community space."
In alignment with their sustainable ethos, SDS generously donated £200 during April, Earth Month, to cover the cost of a disabled ramp, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all to enjoy the garden.
During the festive season, SDS brought warmth and comfort to those in need by providing thermal hats and flasks to The Haven Centre, offering solace to forty community members facing hardship.
SDS consistently demonstrates care and compassion for those in need, from donating three months' worth of essential oils for therapy at Rowcroft Hospice to providing Christmas hampers for patients and their families.
Recognising the invaluable contribution of healthcare service providers, SDS marked International Nurses Day by treating 190 nurses across Torbay to brownies, a gesture of appreciation for their tireless efforts.
In a show of solidarity with Torbay and South Devon NHS Trust, SDS proudly became gold sponsors of its 'Our People' awards, celebrating the remarkable impact of healthcare staff. This sponsorship coincided with SDS's 20th anniversary celebration, underscoring the importance of community in its longevity. Its relationship with the Trust flourished through consultancy on several projects at the hospital, including the mental health unit and emergency department.
Moreover, SDS has been proactive in addressing crucial needs within the community, such as providing sanitary products for users of The Women's Centre who support those accessing domestic abuse services in Torbay. Their monthly donations to the Hygiene Bank ensure ongoing assistance to those in vulnerable situations, and they have delivered over 250 sanitary products to local users so far.
Overall, SDS's contributions to Torbay since June 2023 exceed £6,100, a testament to their unwavering dedication to social responsibility and making a positive difference in the lives of others.
As they continue their impactful work in Torbay and beyond, SDS sets a shining example for businesses, proving that success and social impact can go hand in hand.
