Rob Hobson with the treasured plaque
The official opening from Bryan Robson
On a recent maintenance mission, Torquay United handyman Rob Hobson discovered a plaque dating back to the opening of the Gulls Lodge by an England football legend.
The Lodge, now used as accommodation for members of the United, became a part of the club in 1994 and was originally designed to house youth-team players at Plainmoor.
The grand unveiling was conducted by former England and Manchester United captain Bryan Robson, who was visiting Torquay on a pre-season tour with Middlesbrough, the club he represented as player-manager.
The good grace from Robbo ended there, however, as he scored the first goal for Boro in their 2-0 friendly win.
