Radio legend Tony Blackburn set for Torquay return with Sounds of the 60s

Radio legend Tony Blackburn OBE will return to the Princess Theatre, Torquay, in September 2026 with his hit stage show Sounds of the 60s.

The show, hosted by the BBC Radio 2 presenter, features the Sounds of the 60s All-Star Band and Singers performing classics from one of music’s most influential decades. Audiences can expect songs by The Beatles, The Supremes, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, Elvis, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and many more.

Blackburn, who began his broadcasting career in the 1960s on pirate station Radio Caroline South, went on to become the first DJ heard on BBC Radio 1 and a regular presenter on Top of the Pops. Since 2017 he has hosted Radio 2’s Sounds of the 60s, attracting a loyal national audience each weekend.

Now 62 years on from his first broadcast, he continues to tour the UK with the stage version of the show. “The reaction to these shows has been amazing — it’s pure joy seeing audiences singing and dancing along to the greatest decade of music,” Blackburn said. “Every night feels like a celebration, not just of the songs, but of the memories they bring back. 2026 is going to be another fantastic year for the tour.”

Over his career, Blackburn has become a defining voice of British broadcasting, receiving more than 30 industry awards including two Gold Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Radio. He also won the first series of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2002 and has appeared on The One Show, Let’s Dance for Sport Relief and Piers Morgan’s Life Stories.

Tickets for Sounds of the 60s at the Princess Theatre, Torquay, will go on sale soon.
