More than 3,000 runners are gearing up to take part in the Torbay Half Marathon and 10K, which returns to the English Riviera on Sunday 21 September.
The popular event starts and finishes on Paignton Green, with the first race setting off at 9.15am. Participants will travel from across the UK to line up alongside local runners, making it one of the Bay’s biggest sporting fixtures of the year.
A mass warm-up will take place ahead of the half marathon, with the honorary starters including world champion paddleboarder Brendon Prince, Torquay United co-chairmen Mark Boyes-Cavanagh and Michael Westcott.
Among the field are some notable names: Shaun Dixon, silver medallist at the 2025 British 100km Championships, will be tackling the half marathon, while Torquay United manager Paul Wotton has also signed up for the challenge. Local charity Rowcroft Hospice will have a team of 300 runners across the two distances, raising vital funds for patient care.
For one dedicated fundraiser, the day will be particularly special as they complete their 50th and final marathon at the Torbay Half.
Organisers are reminding residents and visitors that the main seafront road between Torquay and Paignton will be closed from 8am on Sunday morning. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and follow diversion signs.
The event continues to grow as both a sporting and community celebration, showcasing the Bay as a destination for fitness, fundraising and family support.
