An 87-year-old man was arrested by police after a serious road traffic in Torquay which left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.

An 87-year-old man was arrested by police after a serious road traffic in Torquay which left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.

Police were called after reports of a collision in St Albans Road, Babbacombe, at about 9.25am on Wednesday September 3.

It involved a Ford Focus and two parked vehicles - a Volkswagen Caddy van and a Mercedes coach. Emergency services attended the scene.

As a result of the collision, a 66-year-old woman pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where she remains.  A female passenger in the van sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

St Albans Road was closed whilst the scene was examined by specialist forensic collision investigators. It was reopened at around 6pm.

Police said an 87-year-old man from Torquay was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
