Paignton and Torquay achieve top results at Regatta
Dart Totnes Rowing Club staged the first regatta of the West of England Amateur Rowing Association’s ten regatta championship series over two days on the river Dart at Totnes.
The Championship races were over a 1,000 metre course on the first day and the non-championship events over a 500 metres sprint course on the second day.
Paignton had originally been scheduled as the first regatta of the season on May 18 but had to be postponed because of the predicted sea conditions. Paignton Regatta is now due to be held on August 10.
The Totnes & Bridgetown Royal Regatta attracted 110 entries on the first day and 87 entries on the second day. Needless to say, the river conditions were superb for racing, producing some excellent competition.
Both Paignton and Torquay Rowing Clubs were competing, achieving some creditable results. In the Championship events Paignton were second in the Ladies Novice coxed fours, fourth in the Ladies Masters coxed fours and Joshua Bradley was third in the Men’s Under 16 single sculls.
Torquay’s Sophie Evans was third in the Ladies Under 14 single sculls Championship final and on the second day she teamed up with clubmate Will Jackson – Heritage to win the Mixed Under 14 double sculls.
The next Championship Regatta is at Plymouth on June 15.
