Torbay Weekly Business Awards 2024 illuminated the Riviera International Conference Centre last week, celebrating the remarkable achievements and entrepreneurial spirit of local businesses in the Bay.

With a dazzling array of talent on display, the event brought together industry leaders, innovators, and community stalwarts, highlighting the resilience and creativity that drive the area's economic growth.

From burgeoning startups to well-established enterprises, the evening was a testament to the dynamic business landscape of Torbay, and the naturally inspiring individuals that make it all happen.

About 350 people attended the night, hosted by David Fitzgerald and Torbay Weekly editor Jim Parker. The awards were generously sponsored by South Devon College, Wollens Solicitors, Office of Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner, Torbay Business Forum, Inter-Line Building Supplies, English Riviera BID Company, Stagecoach SW, Princess Theatre Torquay, Sally Allen Business Consultant, Mark Wright Majestic Holidays and Torbay Council.

During the evening, guests were treated to a discussion between Mark Bowes-Cavanagh and Micheal Westcott of the Bryn Consortium on their hopes and plans for the future of Torquay United.

There was also music from Good Trouble, a groundbreaking collaboration of rocking folk and vibrant world music. The band played a song that they had been working with Jam Buddies to write, inspired by what 'home' in Devon means to them. Jam Buddies is an organisation that uses songwriting as a way of inspiring creative confidence and voicing emotions amongst young people with social disabilities.

Several thousand pounds were also raised for Rowcroft Hospice through an auction and raffle. Drinks were generously provided by Bays Brewery.

Torbay Weekly Jim Parker editor said: “We’ve had some great entries again this year and a record number of people attend the finals night, all of which would not be possible without our sponsors.

“The businesses in this room have shown resilience and a determination to thrive as well as survive, to grow and expand as well as consolidate and secure, and invest in the future. That's what we recognize tonight. Every one of you is punching above your weight against all the odds, putting the bay on the map.”
