The Summer Jumping action continues at Newton Abbot this weekend with a six-race card on Sunday afternoon.
Racing gets underway at 2.25pm with a class four handicap hurdle before coming to a close at 5.17pm with an eight-runner handicap chase.

Up first is just a small field of three tackling the two-mile handicap hurdle (2.25). Despite the small field, it is a tough one to unpick as all three arrive at Newton Abbot off the back of victories last time out. It could be worth siding with Bobby’s Fortune in the opener however for the Evan Williams team, who has the stronger form on offer having won at Ffos Las last time out in a strong contest.
A field of five will head to the start for the class four juvenile hurdle at 2.57 over the two-mile trip and there is a very interesting Irish raider potentially pitching up with Dignam from the Joseph O’Brien yard, last seen finishing midfield in a valuable handicap on the flat over in Ireland and could be of interest heading over obstacles here for the first time. Of those with previous experience in this sphere, Manyana Blue was third over course and distance back on June 24 so could have a say in things at the sharp end.
Backinaction looks the way to go in race three of the Newton Abbot card on Sunday (3.32) as five runners line up for the class five handicap chase, with Evan Williams’ runner arriving off the back of a good win at Stratford last week and is turned out quickly having finished in the places in two of his last three starts. My Girl Katie was also a winner last time out over course and distance on July 4 and rates the big danger here.
Trainers Phillip Hobbs and Johnson White held a very strong hand in race four of the afternoon with Sassified, who has form figures of 312 in his past three starts so looks a tough nut to crack as he pitches up at Newton Abbot for the two and a quarter mile handicap hurdle in class five (4.07). Square Du Roule will likely provide the chief threat, a good second at Stratford last time out and was third at this track over course and distance last month.
Seven runners will head to post for the penultimate race of Sunday’s card, a three and a quarter mile handicap hurdle (4.42) and the Jonjo and AJ O’Neill-trained Spitalfield gets the nod here, with two seconds on the spin in his last two starts (including over course and distance last month) so is taken to go one better this time around.
Finally, the card comes to a close at 5.17 with a two and a half mile handicap chase in class five, with eight runners set to take it on. Preference in the finale heads the way of La Quarite for the Micky Bowen yard, second on his last spin and is a consistent performer in this sphere so should have enough over the field to finish a spot better off this time around.
