Buckland man of the match Todd Hanrahan
Assistant boss scores the winner in Western League
Buckland Athletic’s play-off aspirations in the Jewson Western League were given a massive boost by an unlikely source in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over struggling Ilfracombe Town.
After 90 minutes of fairly turgid football at Homers Heath, the Bucks were looking at a damaging 1-1 draw, with Ryan Bush notching through a tidy header. Points are everything at this stage of the season and this would have definitely been two dropped.
Step forward assistant manager Todd Hanrahan, often used as a late substitute and a hugely popular figure around the club. In the dying seconds, a low cross scuttled toward the line and Hanrahan dived in for the final winning touch, prompting massive celebrations.
Three places above the Bucks, Brixham AFC have virtually sealed their play-off spot, Aaron Wellington and Charlie Johansen scoring the goals in a 2-1 win over Brislington at Wall Park.
