Manager Gary Johnson says he needs his Torquay United players not to 'sink' under the pressure of taking on big spenders Wrexham in front of an expected 10,000 crowd at the Racecourse Ground tomorrow (Saturday).

The Gulls, who have been linked this week with a loan deal for Wigan Athletic's 21-year-old Welsh midfielder Scott Smith, are rated big outsiders to beat the Red Dragons in north Wales, and they are unlikely to play in front of a bigger crowd in the National League this season.

Discussing the 'sink or swim' scenario, Johnson said: "We need them to swim, and see where they are in their mental state - whether they can produce their best game in that atmosphere.

"We popped their balloon up there last year (1-1). I'm really looking forward to it, and you shouldn't be a footballer if you don't enjoy those games."

On the transfer front, Johnson added: "We've got a couple in mind, and one or two we are talking to at the moment."

United already have Kieron Evans (Cardiff City), Ollie Tomlinson (Plymouth Argyle), Nelson Iseguan (Exeter City) and Will Goodwin (Stoke City) on loan, but the decision to end Tommy Hughes' similar arrangement from Ipswich Town recently did free up another place.
