Torbay Weekly Rewind: August’s most-loved moments across Torbay

August 2025 was all about community spirit and summer traditions, with Torbay Weekly readers flocking to stories that celebrated family moments, famous faces and the Bay at its very best.

The Marvellous Mackerel competition at Brixham Breakwater was in full swing, a notable highlight being local Chris Hawkes and his seven-year-old son, Dexter, fishing for the first time on one of the Rackerhayes ponds, catching a mirror carp of 16lbs 2oz and topping it with a common of 24lbs.

Meanwhile, The Lighthouse café on Torquay harbour continued to attract celebrity visitors, including TV favourites the Hairy Bikers, comedian Paddy McGuinness, and actor-comedian Rob Brydon.

Babbacombe Downs buzzed during the annual Babbacombe Fayre, with stalls, live music, family fun and crowd favourites including the charity dog show and Torquay’s therapy pony Patrick. Paignton Green then played host to the 78th Torbay Children’s Week, bringing generations together for five days of free entertainment run entirely by volunteers and supported by local businesses. The month was rounded off in style as the Torbay Carnival and Paignton Festival filled the seafront with live bands, fireworks and a vibrant community procession, celebrating everything that makes a Torbay summer special.

This is part of our Torbay Weekly Rewind series, looking back at the key stories from each month over the past year. Missed a month? Explore our other monthly rewinds here, with more to come:
