Torquay dad remembered with anniversary tribute

Relatives of David Stacey gather with flowers and fundraising in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society

Torquay dad remembered with anniversary tribute

The family of a Torquay dad have paid a colourful tribute to mark the first anniversary of his death from Alzhermier’s.

David Stacey died from the early onset of the disease aged just 62 just over a year ago.

His family gathered on Torquay seafront to remember him and raise  awareness of the disease and raise money for the Alzheimer's Society with a colourful, floral tribute.

Dave's widow Deb wanted to create a huge bunch of flowers to mark Dave's passing. The Alzheimer’s Society is also represented by a flower.

With online donations and a bucket collection on the day £830 has been raised.

Debb said: “I’d like to thank the family who came together to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society, and also everyone for their generosity, with the amount raised from the collection buckets on the day totalling £344.09. With this being added to the Just Giving page, the overall total now stands at £830.”

David was a staunch Torquay United supporter. Several fund-raising events have been held by friends and supporters to remember him and his uncle David Leslie Stacey, another well-known face at Plainmoor and a stalwart of amateur boxing in the Bay whose life was also claimed by Alzherimer’s.

David Stacey spent 10 years in the Army, working his way up to the position of corporal, before later joining the Ministry of Defence Police.

"After 20 years of service in the MoD, he was retired on the grounds of ill health after initially being diagnosed with having a mild cognitive impairment in 2016.”

David left a wife Debb, four children and four grandchildren.
