Lloyds bank has confirmed that its Torquay Town Centre branch will be closing in October.
Situated at the bottom of Fleet Street, Lloyds cited the falling use of the bank by its customers as the reason for its closure.
It added: “When making changes to our branch network, we always look to understand the impact on our customers – including how they continue to access banking services.”
They added that 81% of the bank's personal customers already use other ways of banking, such as mobile, internet or phone banking, as well as other branches.
Branch transactions at the Fleet Street Torquay branch fell more than 57% between 2019 and 2024.
Lloyds said that customers would still have full access to their services, whether it be by phone, online, Post office or their branch that remains open in Paignton.
Other banks in the area have already been closing, the news comes after TSB Bank in St Marychurch announced it would soon close its doors earlier this year.
A spokesperson for the bank said: “As many customers now choose to bank through their mobile app or online, visits to our Fleet Street Torquay branch have fallen over recent years. When the branch closes in October, customers can continue to manage their money online, by calling us, in person at the Paignton branch, or the local Post Office on Union Street.”
