Plans to create a new all-weather sports pitch in Brixham have received enthusiastic backing from the local community.

Plans to create a new all-weather sports pitch in Brixham have received enthusiastic backing from the local community.
Every comment filed under the planning application for the pitch at Brixham College in Higher Ranscombe Road is from a local person supporting the plan.
One says: “This will be brilliant for children and adults in Brixham.”
The college wants to build a 3G artificial grass pitch with perimeter fencing, floodlights, a storage container and hard-standing areas.
Its application to Torbay Council says the new pitch will comply with FA and Sport England guidance, and will provide ‘a modern, durable, and inclusive all-weather sports facility, enabling year-round football activity regardless of seasonal or weather-related constraints’.
Although the pitch is mainly designed for football, it will also be suitable for rugby and other activities.
The application goes on: “The design complements the appearance of the school site and the wider surrounding environment, ensuring minimal visual impact.
“It is sympathetic to its surroundings, avoiding any unacceptable impact on adjacent public areas or residential neighbours.”
It has been designed to create the least possible noise and light pollution, and opening hours will be from 9am to 10pm daily.
Comments posted in the council’s online planning portal have been supportive.
One says: “The town and its sports clubs are crying out for a facility like this. The schoolchildren will have a lovely facility to help improve their wellbeing and more community club projects will have a facility to be able to use.”
Brixham Rugby Club’s youth section supports the application, and Brixham Town Football Club chairman Shaun Langdon also writes: “This facility must go ahead for the benefit of Brixham and its community. The positive impact far outweighs the negatives.”
