Marldon came together at the weekend to celebrate its much-loved Apple Pie Fair, with families enjoying a day of music, stalls, games and a giant helping of tradition.
The event, which began in the late 19th century when farmer George Hill baked a giant pie for the village fete, has grown into an annual highlight. Since 1958, the fair has featured a procession with an apple pie carried through the village on a donkey-powered cart, alongside fundraising for the village hall and local good causes.
Organiser Amanda Henderson said: “Thank you to everyone who came along to enjoy this year's Marldon Apple Pie Fair. From the bakers and the makers to the pint pullers and the apple pressers.
"The kids were bouncing and apple bobbing, and there was drumming, singing and dancing. We were so lucky with the weather and lots of families were sat out on the bales and their blankets enjoying the afternoon sunshine.
"So many people help make this community event such a joyous one. Thank you again to all involved or who supported in some way.”

The dog show, run with support from Torbay Hospital Radio, proved another popular draw. Local charity Animals in Distress said: “Once again we had another amazing day at Marldon Apple Pie Fair on Saturday, thank you so much for inviting us back. A huge thank you to everyone (human and doggo's) that came to see us on the stall. The dog show was once again an amazing event but unfortunately there can only be one overall winner... and that was Loki the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The reserve best in show was Albert the Shih Tzu.”
Organisers said the fair once again showed the strength of community spirit in Marldon, bringing together generations to celebrate one of the village’s oldest traditions.
