Family invites public to Alzheimer’s tribute for Torquay dad, 62

David Stacey died last August after living with early onset Alzheimer’s for more than eight years

The family of a Torquay dad are planning a special tribute to mark the first anniversary of his death from Alzhermier’s.

David Stacey died from the early onset of the disease aged just 62 last August.

Now his widow Debb and family want to mark the occasion with a special gathering in a Torquay park where they want people to create a huge bunch of flowers.

A justgiving fund-raising page has also been set up (click here).

Debb, says: “My husband suffered more than eight years with this cruel disease that strips your life away bit by bit. His first anniversary is August 22. To mark this I would like to raise as much money as possible for Alzheimer’s Society.”

She added: “We are walking around collecting and want to draw attention to the disease.

“We want to create the biggest bunch of flowers as it’s his anniversary and Alzheimer’s is represented by a flower. We would like to see any coloured flowers.”

The special event is being held in Abbey Park on Torquay seafront at 11am on August 22.

David was a staunch Torquay United supporter. Several fund-raising events have been held by friends and supporters to remember him and his uncle David Leslie Stacey, another well-known face at Plainmoor and a stalwart of amateur boxing in the Bay whose life was also claimed by Alzherimer’s.

The two Staceys have their names on plaques at Plainmoor.

David Stacey spent 10 years in the Army, working his way up to the position of corporal, before later joining the Ministry of Defence Police.

"After 20 years of service in the MoD, he was retired on the grounds of ill health after initially being diagnosed with having a mild cognitive impairment in 2016.”

David left a wife Debb, four children and four grandchildren.
