Dip, dip, hooray!

Paignton Lions Club's Boxing Day Walk Into the Sea

They came in all shapes and sizes.
Colour and costumes were the order of the day as more than 300 people turned out to take part in the Paignton Lions Club's annual Boxing Day Walk Into the Sea. The mild and dry weather was kind to the dippers who gathered on Paignton Beach but it still took some festive courage to brave the icy waves.
Elves, reindeers, Father Christmas and snowmen joined in the fun and even The Grinch managed a smile until he dipped his toe into the not-so-warm water.
The event raises thousands of pounds for local charities every year.
The Lions Club said: “What a turn out. A big thank you to all who came along to support the event, participants and spectators alike. We really do appreciate your support.”
Lions Club press officer Martin Rogers added: “Lions Club of Paignton would like to thank all the participants and locals who supported us on our Boxing Day Walk in the Sea 2023. Over 300 individuals ,many in fancy dress, braved the waters off Paignton Beach. We feel very fortunate that the weather was kind to us. We are always amazed at the wonderful support that is given to Paignton Lions Club events. Special thanks to Torbay Hospital Radio, the Torbay Lifeboat and local Coastguards and our many helpers.”
The club reminded people: “If you didn't manage to put a little in one if our collection buckets fear not, you can still donate. Text SEA to 70470 followed by your amount with every penny going to help those in need locally.”
