Fishing news from Devon
Angling just seems to be getting better and better at the moment with some really good fish being reported. Scott Harris from Dawlish was fishing a local estuary and landed a superb Gilthead Bream of 4lbs 10oz and followed it with a trip aboard Stuart Pikes boat Orca out of Beer and landed his first ever Undulate Ray of 13lbs 10z.
On the same trip, I boated another Undulate weighing in at 14lbs 20z, a new personal best for me. Both fish were returned. Also on Orca , Eddie Jarvis landed a boat record Thornback Ray of 12lbs1oz. Whilst out in Lyme Bay plenty of Bluefin Tuna were spotted chasing bait fish, as they have been in many other parts of our coast.
Two big local competitions have now finished, the Torbay Festival and the Angling Trust Wyvern Region small boat competition at Salcombe. the overall winner at Salcombe was Scott Lowry, the Junior winner was Alletgha Proctor with the team prize being taken by Honiton SAC duo of Barry Hawkins and Ben Bradstock.
The Torbay festival has produced some excellent fish with some fishing all week casing that monster, one such angler was Dan Hale, who caught plenty of fish including Bas and Cod but sadly not the monster, one of his best fish being a Blonde ray of just over 20lbds.
Darren Reynolds fished The NAFA complex at Rackerhayes and finished a good session with a common Carp of 23lbs. Newton Abbot FA held the first round of the silver fish league which saw the honours going to Dean Bradford with a bag weight of 87lbs 14oz. Springs Ponds latest match saw Jason Fay win with a bag weight of 81lbs 4oz.
Kennick Flyfishers have been back in action this time fishing round seven of the Snowbee top Rod competition at Clatworthy reservoir. Thirty-two fish were caught for a total weight of 77lbs 9oz. The best fish was a Rainbow trout of 3lbs 8oz landed by James Friendship with Peter Brown taking the overall honours with five fish for 14lbs, Alex Venn and James Friendship took the next two places.
