Paddle Power put the English Riviera well and truly on the map
The Great Big Paddle Parade of 2023 saw 696 stand-up paddle boarders 'parade' off the Bay's beautiful coastline.
The number was double that of the first event a year ago and it was hoped the resort could break the world record of 1,000 paddlers on parade at the same time.
Main organiser Sean White, of SOAK, said: "I'm struggling with words - exhausted and happily overwhelmed with the most lush emotions available to me.
"I’m so humbled and super grateful for the opportunity to share such epic energy with all. 696 stand up paddle boarders glided the coastline of the English Riviera and whilst it may not have been a world record this year, it’s was an outstanding success in every other way and such an exciting opportunity for next year."
He added: "Thank you my paddle pals from the warmest place in my heart. This may well be one of the most incredible SUP communities in the UK. Let’s keep talking and let’s use this platform for a force of good. Good energy, good information, good people, and epic paddling!"
The parade saw paddlers join the tour - led by SOAK's senior SUP instructors - from three different locations before gliding into Fishcombe Cove at Brixham for the official count and then heading back to their original starting locations.
Besides thee world record attempt, the parade was organised to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute and raise awareness and set standards for SUP safety.
Sean thanked his loyal and hard-working team of volunteers as well as primary sponsors, Kay Elliott, SHARK SUPs, Soak Lifestyle, SUP Services, Torquay Water Sports and the English Riviera BID Company. "It wouldn’t have been the same without you all," he said.
