Angling round-up from the region
Clubs all along the coast are running competitions at the moment. Brixham SAC held their popular BBQ competition from the Breakwater to Berry Head.
The winner on the day was Rob Farley with a Bull Huss with second spot being taken by junior Maisie Upham with a Bass who beat her grandfather Jason into third spot with another Bass.
Honiton SAC’s latest competition was a rover with anglers fishing both North and south coasts, this was an accumulative points competition and was won by Lee Algar who also had the best fish a Bull Huss of 9lbs 1oz.
Jack Cockram of Teignmouth SAC had a day targeting Mullet and had a fantastic day landing a Golden grey of 2lbs 9oz, a Thick lipped of 4lbs 8oz and a Thin lipped of 2lbs 12oz. Exmouth SAC member Tim Clotworthy has been out and about chasing Beam and has been rewarded for his efforts with both Black and Red Bream. Wayne Hand of Honiton SAC who recently had a decent Cod from Chesil beach has been fishing the venue again with his reward being a specimen Thornback Ray of 11lbs 40z.
Boat angling has once again been a little quiet with the unseasonably strong winds continuing but when they have been able to get to sea some good fish have been recorded, notably a Blonde Ray of 16lbs 1oz for Brian Maddaford caught aboard Stuart Pikes Orca out of Beer.
John Bovey has been finding Pollack and Bass on the wreck, as has Matt Forrester with his Torquay charter boat Siver Halo. Matt will shortly be out fishing for Blue Fin Tuna and he still has some spaces for this exciting sportfish, so if you fancy giving it a try, you can find his contact details from his website.
Newbarn Angling centre is producing some nice fish with both boilies and surface fished baits producing fish. Julian Read fished a short evening session and was rewarded with a 20lb plus Common Carp, whilst Ryan Tester had three Carp in his session with the best going 18lbs all on Max Attract baits which are now being stocked in the tackle shop at Newbarn. Luke Tester fished the surface and landed a 20lbs Mirror Carp. Fishing at Newton Abbot’s Rackerhayes complex Kevin Elliot was overjoyed with a new personal best bream of 7lbs 9oz.
