New owners for the Newbarn Angling Centre

Fantastic development for Devon anglers

Great news at last for local coarse anglers. Newbarn Angling Centre is under new ownership and Alex and Samantha Bickham are keen to welcome all anglers to the venue.
They have big plans to return the fishery to its former glory and perhaps make it even better. Work has already started on clearing banks and paths to make the ponds more accessible for all.
New fishing platforms will be built and, on the specimen pond, new huts will be built to give day anglers some shelter. There will be a silvers match on the specimen pond to remove some of the smaller fish to the other ponds. Along with a feeding programme, this will help the Carp grow in size, and fish of over 30lbs will once again be caught.
The tackle shop will reopen in the near future, perhaps only from 12 – 2 each day for a start although if any tackle is needed there will be a phone number to ring and someone will come down to the shop. Work is also going on in the holiday cottages and they will be available from August 1.
The prices for the fishery remain the same at £10 per day and £20 overnight with OAP’s at £6 and juniors £5, this is payable at the moment in an honesty box although regular check are made.
The final bit of good news is that Alex and Samantha have agreed to sponsor our Fish of the Month competition alongside Sidewinder lures and will donate a prize of either two day or one overnight ticket for a winning fish, so please get your catch reports and photos in to johnsherlockfish@gmail.com.
The latest Tackle Trader evening league match was fished on wheel pond at Rackerhayes with Sam Powell taking the honours with 61lbs 2oz, Shane harper and Dean Bradford took the next two spots.
John Hutson, fishing the Brixham SAC bream match won with his first ever Gilthead bream weighing 2lbs 6oz with Jason Upham in second spot. Teignmouth SAC ‘s competition was won by Joe Drew with a Bass of 6lbs 13oz. another Bass of 6lbs fell to the rod of pleasure angler Busayo Akinbowale at Budleigh Salterton.
