More than 250 people, including local businesses, partners, colleagues and friends, celebrated the opening of Paignton's new four-star seafront hotel
The event took place at The Mercure Paignton Hotel's new outdoor terrace and indoor bar and restaurant, Latitude 50, featuring entertainment that transported guests to a bygone era.
Showgirl stilt-walkers, candy floss cocktails and a surprise 1920s flash mob performed by local company WWA Productions, featured plus live performances from Pop Twist Jazz Band, Bond Street, and singer Vintage Lianna.
The event ended with a five-minute firework display by local business Sonic Fireworks, which was enjoyed by event attendees and local residents alike.
Jason Parry, general manager for Mercure Paignton Hotel, said: “We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who attended our Seaside Nostalgia Extravaganza. This was a truly momentous occasion that marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey for both our hotel and the local community, as well as testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved with the construction and opening of this hotel.
“We hope this event was a reflection of our commitment to the region, as we proudly employed local talents and fostered strong regional relationships and partnerships, for example, showcasing some of the very best of our local suppliers.”
The Mercure Paignton Hotel, which officially opened its doors in April, is owned by Singapore-based Fragrance Group, franchised by the Accor group and operated by RBH Hospitality.
Situated in a prime location on the seafront, with stunning views of the coast, promenade, pier and beach, the art deco inspired hotel includes 161 stylish bedrooms, a glass-fronted restaurant and a two-tier outdoor terrace and bar.
Signifying an investment for the region of £30m, the new-build hotel is next to the Fragrance Group's Ibis Styles hotel, which is set to open on the seafront later this year.
The Mercure Paignton Hotel worked closely with local suppliers and businesses, such as Scarlett Entertainment, The Sweet Tricycle, Confetti Events and Sevanetti Ice Creams to bring their opening event to life. Regional drink suppliers Sandridge Barton Wines, Bays Brewery, Devon Rum Co, and Deck Chair Gin sponsored the event, providing samples of their locally-made drinks for guests.
Jason said: “The Mercure Paignton Hotel promises to provide guests with a one-of-a-kind Riviera experience, delivering the highest level of comfort and service and evoking cherished memories of nostalgic beach holidays while igniting a sense of eagerness for new adventures and experiences."
