Watch the trailer for Torquay United's new documented film series

Taking Flight follows the club's journey back from the brink

Torquay United Football Club’s incredible journey over the past year has been captured in a new video series launching on their YouTube channel on Monday, February 17.

Titled Taking Flight, the series documents the club’s recovery after former owner Clarke Osborne announced plans for administration in February last year.

It tells the story of the club’s near closure before being rescued by the Bryn Consortium—a group of businessmen named after the police dog that famously bit Torquay player Jim McNichol during the final match of the 1986-87 season. The resulting stoppage time allowed the Gulls to score a crucial goal and avoid relegation.

The series follows the return of 75-year-old Neil Warnock, determined to revive the club he briefly managed in 1993, alongside manager Paul Wotton, who built a team from scratch.

Produced by Torquay-based Cobalt Films, Taking Flight is a tribute to everyone who helped keep the club alive, including their partners such as Clear Sky Publishing, publishers of the Torbay Weekly.

A spokesperson for the club said: "This beautifully filmed series is a tribute to all those who helped keep the club going and especially to our partners who ensured it not only survived but was able to grow and take flight.”

The first episode will premier at 7pm on Monday, February 17 here. New episodes will be released monthly.
