Torbay pro cyclist Harrison Wood has celebrated signing for a new team with some surfing with friends in Cornwall – only he rode nearly 200 miles to do it!

Wood has left Anicolor-Tien21 and joined rival Portuguese squad Feirense-Beeceler for the 2026 road season.

He has just started his winter training programme, and he kicked it off by riding from his home in Torquay to Newquay, surfing for three days and then pedalling back.

“It’s actually something I’ve done for the last couple of years,” he said.

“I got pretty wet when I set out for home, but I did enjoy it.

“It was about 95 miles, and I managed to do it in five hours or so each way, so I was happy with that.”

Former WorldTour rider Wood, 25, confirmed that he has signed a contract with Feirense after apparently being headhunted.

Wood played a key role in Anicolor’s successful 2025 campaign, when they won most of Portugal’s major races and stamped themselves as the country’s No.1 team.

But Feirense, one of Portugal’s oldest established pro teams (1983), appear determined to try and oust their rivals, and they have recruited Wood to help them do it on the UCI Continental circuit.

“I enjoyed last year with Anicolor, but I wanted to ride more for myself than I ended up doing there.

“I am going to Feirense to be more of a leader.

“I’m sure Anicolor will still be strong again next year, but several of the other Portuguese teams have signed good riders, so it should be a really open and competitive season there.”

Wood began his career with the Mid-Devon CC before spells with SEG Academy (Holland) and then France’s AVC Aix-en-Provence and Team Cofidis for two years on the WorldTour.
