Brixham beat Marlborough. Pic from Brixham Rugby Club
Brixham Rugby Club were at their ruthless best in a 71-0 demolition of Marlborough to bring back that winning feeling in the Regional 1 SW Division.
The Fishermen enjoyed an autumn break last weekend and a chance to regroup after an agonising two-point loss at Launceston, and Marlborough were the victims on a brutal afternoon at Astley Park.
After an impeccably observed Remembrance weekend tribute, Brixham set the tone inside three minutes, Kai Kidd scoring in the corner and Mitch Pinkus adding the extras with a sublime conversion.
The second score came from Jack Stead, threading a line through the Marlborough defence, and express pace from Kidd soon had the visitors reeling even further at 21-0. The bonus point was secured in the blink of an eye, Andre Simonetti the latest Fisherman to cross the whitewash.
Jamie Hext was next to score and he swiftly repeated the tick to move the lead on to an irrepressible 42-0 at the half-time break. Marlborough, to their credit, came out with fine spirit early in the second half and enjoyed some forays forward, but normal service soon resumed in the autumn sunshine.
Kidd completed his hat-trick and the half-century was passed by Louie Drennan touching down in the corner. The rampant Kidd added try number four in his classy afternoon and the scoring was completed by Connor Doneathy and Hext rounding off his hat-trick.
Brixham will expect a tougher test at Sidmouth this weekend. The Crusaders enjoyed a 33-20 win at Old Techs.
Paignton slipped to just their second defeat of the season in the Western West Division, going down 36-19 at St Ives after failing to recover from a sluggish first-half display in Cornwall.
Jack Linley-Shaw did cross for the Cherries but St Ives were in control at 21-7. Linley-Shaw scored again after the break and there was a further try from Harry Ward, but the powerful pack of the home side ultimately proved the difference in a 36-19 defeat for the Cherries.
There was better news for the second XV, beating Tamar Saracens 36-12 at Queens Park with tries from Russ Cramer, George Palk, Luke Boot, Joe Massey, Tom French and Euan Worden.
It was a soggy Sunday for Paignton Ladies, who battled through the mud and rain to beat Topsham Tempests 17-7 with scores from Amy Law, Jordan Crooke and Gracie Seldon.
A double from man of the match Morgan Alcock was sadly not enough to prevent Torquay Athletic from going down to a 40-24 loss at Penryn. Ryan Hanauer and Ben Sharples also crossed for the Tics.
Torquay 2nds had a better day, defeating Totnes 49-20 with a fine hat-trick from Harvey Dent taking the headlines.
