TORQUAY United will meet Southern League opposition for the second successive round in this season’s FA Cup – it’s Hungerford Town at Plainmoor for the Gulls in the 3rd Qualifying Round in two weeks’ time (Sept 30). From Dave Thomas
The Gulls earned their place with a 3-0 win at SL Division One side Wimborne Town on Saturday. Now they will face SL Premier opposition in Hungerford, who were relegated from the National League South last season.
The draw gives Gary Johnson’s men a good chance of reaching the 4th Qualifying Round, when the NL Premier clubs then enter the competition, with EFL One and Two clubs joining in the 1st Round Proper.
Saturday’s win in Dorset earned Torquay £3,375 in prizemoney. There will be another £5,625 at stake against Hungerford, £9,375 on offer if they reach the 4th Qualifier and then the rewards take off in the ‘Proper’ stages - £41,000 in Round One alone.
United’s Westcountry rivals Yeovil Town drew Didcot Town at home, Taunton Town will host Sheppey United if they beat Merthyr Town in a replay and the survivors of the Frome Town v Plymouth Parkway replay face a long trip to Cray Wanderers or Ramsgate.
