Brixham anglers find an iconic fish

Spot on charters based in Brixham has been fishing for Blue Fin Tuna with considerable success, all fish are brought to the side of the boat where they are given time to recover and are tagged before being released in accordance with the CHART programme.

Winter is now approaching and Carp anglers are finding the fish are readily taking bottom fished baits. Newbarn Angling Centre is no exception and several fish in excess of 20lbs have been reported.

For any angler wanting to catch a big Perch, and this includes me, a good place to try is Spring Ponds at Rocombe where fish up to around 4lbs have been caught. They are often hooked by mistake when anglers are fishing maggots for the silver fish but, of course, can be targeted with prawns or worms.

The shingle beaches to the East continue to fish well for Bass and Rays as well as Mackerel, Garfish and Bream. Reports are coming in of the first of the winters Whiting, and Cod have been showing for a few weeks.

The Bristol Channel is now producing some Cod between Minehead and the Severn bridges, both from boat and shore. Heritage Charters out of Watchet fished the Welsh side of the channel this week and found plenty of Rays to high double figures.

Honiton Sac members have fished various venues, with James Trevett finding plenty of Thick Lipped Mullet, while Tom Travers fished a rock mark for some nice Ballan Wrasse. Mike Spiller continues his quest for different species, this time finding a Red Band fish.

Jack Davies fished at Plymouth using live Prawn for bait mounted on a size 10 wide gape hook and caught Flounders to 1lb 8oz. Also at Plymouth, Laura Lethbridge fished in 30mph winds using a Savage Gear Seeker Lure to catch Bass up to 3lbs 4oz. Torbay Angler Dan Hale visited a wind-lashed beach targeting Bass and found a fish estimated in excess of 5lbs.
