Honorio Cubillas-Perez has earned a fully funded place at Princeton University
A Torquay student has earned a fully funded place at Princeton University after achieving a perfect score in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.
Honorio Cubillas-Perez, a student at Torquay Boys’ Grammar School, scored the maximum 45 points, placing him among the top 0.5 per cent of IB students worldwide.
He was one of several high achievers in this year’s cohort, which achieved an average score of 37 points – above the UK average of 35 and the global average of 30.58.
Three other students — Nikola Krastev, William Nuttall and Zachary Stone — each scored 44 points, while Alfie Dean and Zachary Stone secured places at the University of Oxford to study Biochemistry and History respectively.
A further 12 students achieved 40 points or more, a level typically required for entry to top global universities.
Dr Max Stites, the school’s IB Coordinator, said: "These results are a reflection of the students’ passion for learning and their ability to think critically and globally.
“We are incredibly proud of their achievements and the values they embody."
Headteacher Dr James Hunt said: "The IB Diploma is one of the most rigorous academic programmes in the world.
“Our students have not only met its challenges but have excelled.
“Their success is a credit to their determination and the supportive environment we foster at TBGS."
