GPs are expected to start seeing patients at Brixham Health and Wellbeing Centre (Brixham Hospital) within the next month, it has been announced.
Once the date is confirmed, patients and local stakeholders will be kept informed including details of how and when they can access GP services, stated an update from NHS Devon.
Brixham's two local GP practices - Mayfield Medical Centre and Compass House - have now gained access to the site within Brixham Hospital, and are currently undertaking the necessary steps to relocate and ensure all the equipment and space is ready.
Progress has been made on the development in recent months with refurbishment work completed with Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, supported by Brixham League of Friends.
Brixham councillor Mike Morey welcomed the news. He said: "Since the start of the pandemic, Mayfield patients have had to travel to Cherrybrook or Paignton to visit the doctors, so this is brilliant news for those patients.
" It has been difficult for some patients to travel to these surgeries over the last few years, so this news will be most welcome by the residents of Brixham, and I am pleased they will soon be able have easier access to see their doctor."
