Joji Johnson, Team Leader for Agincare’s Live-in Care reablement service in Devon and Somerset, has been named outstanding Leader of the Year at the Agincare Heroes Awards, in recognition of his leadership in helping people regain confidence and independence at home.

A Torbay care team leader has been recognised at the Agincare Heroes Awards.

Joji Johnson, Team Leader for Agincare’s Live-in Care reablement service in Devon and Somerset has been named outstanding Leader of the Year.

The award recognised Joji’s leadership in helping people who have recently left hospital regain confidence and independence at home.

His dedication to building strong relationships with families and other healthcare professionals was also celebrated.

Joji reflected on this achievement and said: “It’s quite amazing.”

“This award is all because of my team and what we have achieved together.”

“I’m just so proud.”

The award ceremony was held in September at Chewton Glen Hotel in the New Forest.

The event celebrated the organisation’s 6,000-strong workforce, with 11 awards presented following more than 1,000 nominations, recognising the hard work of exceptional team members.

Now in its fifth year, the award ceremony was particularly special this time around, as Agincare celebrated 40 years since Founder and Chairman Derek Luckhurst opened the organisation’s first care home in Weymouth in 1986.

Joji is proud that his hard work has been recognised and spoke about the importance of strong, compassionate leadership in making a difference.

He said: “leadership is not about standing above others.”

“It’s about standing beside them, helping when things are difficult, believing in them, and supporting them every step of the way.”

Several people who were supported by the Live-In-Care Reablement service, along with other professionals who work in partnership with his team nominated Joji for the award.

His leadership has helped secure extensions to both Devon and Somerset contracts through to 2027, due to positive feedback from local authorities and the high standard of care provided.

His team also supports people in rural communities across Somerset, particularly areas not served by other domiciliary care providers, providing personalised care, regular companionship and check-ins.

Agincare Live-in Care Head of Operations Michelle Beer said: “We are so proud of Joji for being recognised as Agincare’s Outstanding Leader of the Year.”

“ He is someone who truly embodies our values and understands the impact of person-centred care.”

“He has been the driving force behind our successful reablement services in Devon and Somerset, and the results truly speak for themselves.”
