Devon double for Torbay’s champion golfers

Churston’s Jack Dart and Torquay’s Jenny Rhodes strike gold as local golfers dominate county champion-of-champions competitions

Torbay golf is celebrating a remarkable double success after Churston Golf Club’s Jack Dart and Torquay Golf Club’s Jenny Rhodes claimed prestigious Devon Champion of Champions titles.

Dart produced an outstanding performance at Tavistock Golf Club on Sunday, carding a three-under-par round of 68 in testing conditions to lift the coveted Devon Champion of Champions trophy.

The victory adds another major achievement to an exceptional year for Churston’s current club champion, who continues to establish himself among the county’s leading amateur golfers.

Dart has already won the Churston Club Championship for the fourth time in five years and maintains an impressive handicap of plus four, underlining his consistency and ability at the highest level of amateur competition.

He has also enjoyed success beyond the county, winning the BUCS Tour Finals at Royal St George’s against some of the country’s leading university golfers.

His latest triumph brings together a season of remarkable performances and provides further evidence of the talent emerging from Torbay’s golfing community. With his attention now turning towards his career and some of the leading amateur events next year, Dart will be hoping to build on a season that has delivered success on several fronts.

Meanwhile, there was further cause for celebration at Torquay Golf Club, where Jenny Rhodes was crowned the 2026 Devon County Ladies Champion of Champions following a memorable performance in glorious sunshine.

Rhodes’s victory secured one of the county’s most sought-after ladies’ golfing honours and continued an impressive run for Torquay’s women golfers.

Her success follows Keeley Clarke’s victory in 2025, meaning Torquay Golf Club has now claimed the prestigious title in consecutive years.

The back-to-back triumphs underline the strength and depth of the club’s ladies’ section, while providing another proud moment for members and supporters.

For Torbay, the two victories represent more than individual success. They highlight the quality of golfers competing across the area, from established club champions to players making their mark on the wider amateur stage.

Dart’s achievement demonstrates the rewards of sustained dedication and consistency, while Rhodes’s triumph continues a winning tradition for Torquay’s women golfers.

Both titles also reinforce the importance of local golf clubs in nurturing talent, providing competitive opportunities and helping players progress to higher levels of the game.

With Dart preparing to test himself against leading amateur opposition in the coming year, and Torquay’s ladies celebrating a second successive county title, the future looks bright for golf across Torbay.
