Two funding schemes are now open in Torbay to help boost physical activity and support local sporting talent.

Torbay on the Move, a Torbay Council initiative to encourage residents to be more active, is offering grants through two programmes.

The More Active, More Often fund is aimed at increasing participation in sport and physical activity, particularly among those less likely to be active. Clubs, community groups and activity providers can apply for up to £2,000 to run projects that help more people get moving.

The Believe to Achieve fund supports elite and aspiring athletes in the area. Grants of up to £1,500 are available to help cover costs such as training, equipment, competition fees and travel.

Councillor Hayley Tranter, Cabinet Member for Adult and Community Services, Public Health and Inequalities, said: “The heart of all sport and physical activity lies within local clubs, community groups, and activity providers. I would encourage local sports organisations and community groups to apply for the More Active, More Often funding so that people get all the support they need to start their fitness journey and improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

“Believe to Achieve is part of our commitment to nurture the sporting talent of tomorrow. Training costs, travel, equipment, and competition fees can soon mount up. We are providing grants to avoid these costs becoming financial hurdles that prevent athletes from achieving their full potential.”

Applications are reviewed quarterly. Upcoming deadlines are:

4pm on Wednesday 28 May 2025

4pm on Wednesday 27 August 2025

4pm on Wednesday 26 November 2025

4pm on Wednesday 25 February 2026

More details and application forms are available on the Torbay on the Move website.
