Motorists using one of the main routes into Bideford have been advised to allow more time for journeys later this month, with 10 days of three-way traffic lights scheduled at East-the-Water.

Between November 24 and December 4, Wales & West Utilities will be carrying out essential upgrades to gas pipelines and the three-way lights will be placed on Barnstaple Street at its junction with Ethelwynne Brown Close.

The company has worked with Devon County Council to plan the work and agree the temporary traffic restrictions.

The route is a busy one, especially at rush hour and drivers are being advised to take the restrictions into account while planning their journeys.

Roxanne Whittaker at Wales & West Utilities is managing this work and said: “We are making good progress and continue to work with the council to plan these essential works.

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
