Brixham Breakwater hosts the return of powerboat racing

Spectacular fun on the water this weekend

It is going to be a great season for local powerboat racing fans. This year, the Offshore Circuit Racing Drivers Association (OCRDA) Aqua Adrenaline Tour will be racing in Torbay twice! This is the UK’s biggest powerboat racing series.

The first event, Round 2 of the Tour, will be held at Brixham over the weekend of May 24/25. Brixham last hosted the Tour in 2023. The racing will take place on a course just off Brixham Breakwater offering spectators a fantastic view of all the action.

Races last for 25 minutes plus one lap, and there will be two races each day. The powerboats are divided into three classes, F1, F2 and F3, decided by engine size. Look out for the dayglo decals on the nose of each boat indicating its class.

There will be three UIM HOCR world champion crews racing – F1 Champion’s Craig Temple-Murray and Mark Hayward - “Scotty 1”; F2 Champion Bob McCarthy, racing this year with Dave Chesney, who replaces 2024 navigator James Goldsmith in “If Only”. F3 Champion’s Anthony Scaccia and Eddie Gourlay - “The Lions”.

In addition to the powerboats, there will also be two races each day for jet skis and three races for ProCats - a high-speed Inflatable catamaran. The ProCats are a new addition to the Aqua Adrenaline Tour for 2025. They are very nimble, two-man race boats.

The action is spectacular to watch - they usually race close together and often launch themselves out of the water. These races last for 10 minutes plus one lap.

One team set to dominate the racing is Team Endeavour Racing. This team comprises wounded, injured and sick (WIS) serving military personnel and veterans. The aim of the Team is to support and empower team members into future employment, training or education. Team Endeavour is believed to be the largest Procat racing team in the world! They usually field five boats.

The action is scheduled to get underway on both days with the ProCats at 11am and the racing concludes with the final ProCats race at 3.30pm. These times are indicative and can be affected by race incidents and weather conditions.

The Aqua Adrenaline Tour returns to Torbay on July 19/20 with Round 4 taking place in Torquay – a regular venue for the race series that is now in its eleventh year.

Spectators will have a great view of the racing which will take place off Haldon Pier. Again, the racing will include boats, jet skis and ProCats and will run to a similar schedule as the Brixham event.
