Torquay United Women beat Luton Town at Homers Heath

Torquay United Women booked their place in the next round of the Plate with a deserved 2-0 victory over Luton Town Ladies at the VX3 Stadium on Sunday.

The Yellows made a flying start, scoring twice in three minutes to take control of the tie.

Sarah Stacey opened the scoring in the 18th minute, firing home from a corner to put United ahead. Just three minutes later, Stacey turned provider, with her cross only partially cleared by Luton goalkeeper Freya Upson, allowing Matilda Franchi to score from close range.

It was Franchi's second goal in four days and gave the hosts a commanding advantage.

United continued to threaten before the break, with Stacey going close to a third, but Luton showed greater attacking intent after half-time.

The visitors came close to reducing the deficit when an effort struck Ellie Mitchell's crossbar, while further dangerous attacks tested the United defence.

However, the Yellows remained organised and determined, dealing with Luton’s pressure and limiting their clear-cut opportunities.

There were still attacking moments for United, with Ella-Mae Miller delivering a dangerous ball into the box, but neither side could add to the scoreline.

The 2-0 victory secured a deserved passage into the next round.
