Bovey Tracey and Buckland Athletic march on in the FA Vase

Victories for Bovey Tracey and Buckland Athletic in the FA Vase
Bovey Tracey AFC booked their place in the third round proper of the FA Vase after overcoming Devon rivals Brixham AFC 3-2 in a dramatic Halloween clash at the Western Counties Roofing Ground.
The Moorlanders were largely in control for 80 minutes, but two late goals from the visitors made for a nervy finish.
After a quiet opening, Brixham created the first clear opportunity, with Bovey goalkeeper Andy Collins producing two excellent saves to keep the scores level.
Bovey gradually took control, with Josh Webber causing problems down the flank. His excellent delivery led to the opening goal, with Stuart Bowker eventually being credited after a crowded goalmouth scramble.
The hosts doubled their advantage when Jadore Lawson struck the post and Ollie Aplin reacted quickest to turn home the rebound from close range.
Lawson then became provider shortly after the restart, delivering a dangerous cross which Bowker swept home to make it 3-0.
Bovey appeared comfortably on their way to victory, but a series of substitutions, including changes forced by injuries to Bowker and Cieran Bridger, disrupted their momentum.
Brixham took full advantage. Substitute Albie Baker first lifted the ball over Collins to reduce the deficit before producing an excellent finish from a bouncing ball to make it 3-2.
Suddenly, the visitors sensed an unlikely comeback.
Bovey had an opportunity to settle matters when Zico Kendall was played through on goal, but his effort was well saved.
The Moorlanders nevertheless held firm during the closing stages to secure victory and their place in the last 32 of the competition.
Buckland Athletic will be mightily relieved that their next FA Vase trip is relative potter down the road to Plymouth, where they will take on Elburton Villa after a monster journey to the Isle of Wight in Round Two.
The Bucks were drawn away to Cowes Sports FC, meaning an epic eight hours on the road and two ferry trips across the Solent.
Despite being weary travellers, Buckland were the dominant force in the first half, asking numerous questions of their hosts, although Mike Searle twice had to produce decent saves at the other end.
The breakthrough arrived midway through the second half, when a deflected pass fell perfectly for Josiah McKayle to clip home the opener. Toby Pullman then sealed a 2-0 win, and a perfect away day, from the penalty spot.
