The upgrade is part of a wider £500,000 investment by Wales & West Utilities to replace ageing pipework in Brixham over the next 12 months, keeping the gas network safe, reliable and fit for the future.

Wales & West Utilities has finished upgrading gas pipes in the Greenway Road area of Galmpton, thanking the local community for its patience during the works.

The project began at the start of July and was completed on time. Traffic management was in place throughout, and the work was planned alongside Torbay Council.

Further upgrades are planned for The Roundings, Slade Lane and Stoke Gabriel Road at a later date.

The Greenway Road scheme forms part of a wider £500,000 investment by Wales & West Utilities over the next 12 months to replace gas mains across Brixham, as the company continues to renew ageing pipework in the area.

Natalie Raphael, who is managing the work, said the upgrade was needed to keep the gas network safe, reliable and fit for the future. She said the company would return to the area next year and would keep residents updated on those plans. She added that the work was essential not only to keep gas flowing to homes and businesses now, but also to prepare the network to carry green gases in future.

Wales & West Utilities operates the gas emergency and pipeline service across Wales and south west England, delivering energy to more than 7.5 million people through over 35,000 kilometres of underground pipes. It does not sell gas but transports it to homes and businesses.

Anyone who smells gas or suspects a carbon monoxide leak should call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999.
