River Dart Regatta ideal preparation for the approaching World Championships

The Dart Gig Club Regatta held on the River Dart at Dartmouth attracted eleven local pilot gig clubs from across Devon and Dorset for fourteen events.

Racing was mostly over a 3,000 metre course in the mouth of the Dart, although the Under 16 and Under 14 events were over 2,000 metres. Conditions were good despite the gusty wind.

The event proved extremely useful as preparation for the World Pilot Gig Championships scheduled for May 1 to 3 on the Isles of Scilly.

Paignton’s contingent with their gig ‘Top Catch’ competed in six events achieving their best result of the day in the Ladies Super Vets.

Brixham with their gig ‘Pegasus’ were also strong competitors competing in all fourteen events on offer. Their best results were 2nd at Under 14 and third places at Under 16, Ladies Super Vets and Ladies Masters.
