TGGS Netball team
Sporting achievement continues to shine at Torquay Girls’ Grammar School, with students excelling across multiple disciplines in recent weeks.
The outstanding U14 netball team have been crowned Devon Champions after a day of exceptional play and determination at Exeter University. Giving up their well-being day to compete, the team dominated their group stage by winning every match, securing a place in the semi-finals.
A calm and disciplined performance saw them through to the final, where a fiercely contested game ended 8–8, forcing extra time. Showing remarkable composure, TGGS scored in both two-minute halves to seal a 10–8 victory and the county title. They now progress to the South West Round in Bournemouth at the end of January. Huge congratulations to a team who truly played their socks off.
There was further success on the football pitch as the U18 squad secured a superb 2–1 victory in Round Two of the National Schools Cup. Goals from Ella and Nylah sealed the win, with Molly M. named Player of the Match. The team now look ahead confidently to Round Three. Thanks go to the visiting opposition, who travelled all the way from Bournemouth for the fixture.
In gymnastics, Year 8 student Maddie Maddock continues to impress at national level. Competing at the British FIG Development 3 Finals in Stoke, Maddie achieved an outstanding 3rd place overall and 2nd on beam, marking the completion of her grades pathway. She has now officially qualified for the 2026 British Championships in Liverpool, fulfilling a hard-earned dream. TGGS is incredibly proud of her elite-level achievements.
Hockey also brought brilliant news. The U16 team delivered a dominant performance in the Devon round of the National Schools Competition on October 16, finishing 1st in the county and qualifying once again for the regional rounds. Their teamwork and determination continue to set a high standard.
Finally, congratulations to Grace Murphy (Year 10), who has been selected for the Scotland U17 Netball Squad – The Thistles. Grace rose above fierce competition, with over 160 athletes trialling across 12 districts. She trained alongside senior Scottish internationals, including Emily Nicholl and Niamh McCall. Her selection is a testament to her talent, commitment, and dedication. TGGS is incredibly proud of Grace and look forward to supporting her throughout the season.
TGGS continues to prove that sporting excellence is an integral part of the school community.
