Bobby Singh smashing the Frankfurt Ironman
The Frankfurt Ironman took place today in a sweltering 90 degree temperatures, the event comprising a 2.4 mile swim / 112 mile bike/ 26.2 mile marathon.
Torbay Triathlon Club’s very own V55 Bobby Singh completed the event in an impressive time of 14hrs 53mins 38secs - take a bow Bobby!
The World Championship triathlon/duathlon/aquathlon/Aqua bike/ took place last weekend in Portevedra Spain, again in very warm weather
Gary Burman has a very successful day in the aquathon event, a 1k river swim followed by a 5k run. Gary finished 17th overall in 38mins 53secs.
Chris Tye took part in the LD triathlon (3k swim, 121k bike, 30k run) and finished 9th in age category, while Amanda Radley did the Aqua bike (3k swim,120k bike) and finished 8th in age category.
Closer to home, the English Riviera triathlon took place in Torquay over the standard/sprint/super sprint distances.
In the standard event (1500m swim,40k bike,10k run), first back from the club was V40 Mark Colombini in 2hrs 23mins 22secs 6th, overall 2nd Vet 40. Just behind was V55 Jon Parkinson 2hrs 28mins 17secs (7th) ,1st V50.
Next was V50 Simon Mills 2hrs 38mins 28secs (19th), then SM Bradley 'lizardman' Price 2hrs 43mins 03secs (31st), V40 Chris Martin 2hrs 51mins 31secs (51st), and V40 Debbie Burman in 3hrs 09mins 21secs (76th) out of 100.
In the sprint (750swim, 20k bike, 5k run), first back was Andrew Longthorpe, 4th overall in 1hr 12mins 34secs and 1st V50, followed by V40 Dave Brown 1hr 16mins 17secs (11th), 2nd Vet 40, while V60 Cathy Parkinson had a good day finishing in 1hr 28mins 31secs (34th) plus 1st V60. Kate Baldock, in her first triathlon, finished in 1hr 34mins 51secs (49th), next was V70 Rod Pressling in 1hr 44mins 57secs (69th), and 1st Vet 70.
In the super sprint (300m swim,10k bike, 2.5k run), V60 Naoko McKinnon 1hr 00mins 44secs (14th), 1st V60, followed by Sarah Mills in 1hr 02mins 15secs (16th).
The Loop event put on by winding paths involves a 20-mile route, which starts on the beach at Broadsands Beach and heads inland through Churston, Galmpton, Greenway, then into Long Wood and Hoodown Wood, before crossing the steam railway to the River Dart and Kingswear.
Participants then join the South West Coast Path along woodland cliff paths, coves, beaches and stunning scenic hills to Brixham Harbour. After looping around the harbour, you are back on the trails all the way to the finish, with over 4000ft of elevation!
Jo Atkins was up for the challenge and completed the very tough route in 8hrs 04mins 30secs (154th) out of 177 finishers.
The Nello is a charity cycle event over 100/60/50 mile routes, which starts at Topsham Rugby Club, and makes its way to South Molton, Exmoor, Tiverton and back.
In the 100-miler, V50 Gary Brenton rode with V40 Paul Whitehead and finished in 5hrs 38mins. V65 Steve Maddock finished in 7hr 24mins 26secs, V50 Vivek Kulkarni and son Ethan also completed the 100 in 7hrs 29mins 54secs.
V60 Chris Ripley, fresh from the recent Dartmoor Classic, finished the 60miles in 4hr 51mins 48secs, Andrew Kilner did the 50miles.
Gary and Debbie Burman were at the Triathlon World Championship Qualifiers at Woodhorn Museum, Northumberland. 850mile round trip. Gary placed 15th/293, 6th in Qualification. Debbie placed 8th in Qualification, both just missing out on Top 4 automatic qualification spots for the championships, but in with a chance of a roll down spot.
Another long trip was made by Peter Hayward up to Norfolk, to take on the Outlaw Holkham 70.3. Pete had a very good day being steady and consistent in all three disciplines, 32mins lake swim, 2hrs 55min rolling bike and 2 hrs 10mins undulating multi terrain run in the pouring rain, finishing in 5hrs 40mins 56secs, also 2nd in age group.
Even further from home was SL Samara Taylor, who travelled up to Newcastle-upon-Tyne to take part in the Great North 10k. Samara went sub-50, finishing in 49mins 57secs (1615th) out of just under 6000 runners.
The Magnificent 7 is an annual road race organised by the Tamar Trotters running club and has been going since 1999. A scenic figure of eight road course takes in the country lanes and hamlets of South East Cornwall. Vet 35 Jon Hiscoke was the sole representative from the Tri Club and had a strong run to finish in 52mins 21secs (65th) out of a very competitive field of 372.
