World Book Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate literature and all those amazing characters that come to life on the page.

Children from all over the world get in the spirit by dressing up as their favourite book heroes, from Harry Potter to Alice in Wonderland.

For one young Torquay United fan, however, it was a chance to dress up as his favourite character, Gulls’ manager Paul Wotton, a costume that included his TUFC top and some matching Wotton stubble.

The Torquay boss was naturally flattered by the tribute but he did provide some useful advice for the young fan!

“My boy Alfie sent it to me and I just hope he’s not walking around miserable all day, swearing at everyone,” said Wotton. “My boy went as ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ but we didn’t have that [at my school].”
