Strong performances in Spain, France and Wales for MDCC

Mid-Devon Cycling Club’s Ewan Warren followed up his stage victory in the Vuelta a Guadalentin ten days ago by finishing third on the final ‘queen’ stage of the Memorial Manuel Sanroma in central Spain.

Warren, 21, riding for the Costa Blanca’s Natural Greatness Rali-Ale team, was in a group of favourites who attacked the overall leader in the hilly closing stages.

They pulled clear and Warren held on for third place, behind Spaniard Jordi Artigues and the new overall winner, Russian Daniel Kazakov. Warren now moves on to the opening rounds of the season-long Copa Espana series.

Torquay’s Harrison Wood returned from a training ‘bloc’ in the French Alps to finish 66th, in a large group alongside Ineos Grenadiers star Geraint Thomas, in Portugal’s Figueira Champions Classic (193K).

Wood and his Anicolor-Tien21 team next tackle the prestigious five-day Tour of the Algarve, starting today (Wed).

MDCC’s Lauren Fox posted another impressive performance in the latest round of the Newport Velodrome’s Icebreaker Omnium Series.

Fox was eighth in the Under-16 Scratch race, but bounced back to win the Elimination and Points heats and finish second overall.

Matt Holmes and Bayley Woodger both rode well in their Under-16 competition, highlighted by a sixth place for Holmes and ninth for Woodger in the Elimination event.
