Mid-Devon Cycling Club enjoy podium finishes in Kent

Veteran Cathy Kilburn and fast-rising junior Lauren Fox both delivered silver medals for the Mid- Devon Cycling Club at the National Cyclo-Cross Championships in freezing conditions at the Kent Cyclopark in Gravesend.

Racing on the second day had to be delayed and the course altered because of the sub-zero temperatures, and the slippery tracks put a premium on skill and bike handling throughout the weekend.

Kilburn brought all her experience to bear in an impressively determined performance to finish second in the Women’s 55-60 yrs category.

Fox had finished third overall in the National Trophy Series, and she looked on for a medal in the Girls Under-14 race after a typically strong start.

Fox could not catch winner Eva Gibson (4T+Cyclopark), who was riding on her ‘home’ course, but she still clinched a deserved runner-up spot to cap a memorable season.

MDCC duo Eva Fox and Lara Dix both competed in the Junior Women’s race on Day Two. Fox recovered from a couple of slip-ups, and she and Dix rode well to finish 13th and 14th respectively.
