Win on the board for Brixham RFC

Victory for Brixham RFC

Brixham RFC recorded their first victory in the Regional 1 Tribute SW division with an enterprising 34-22 triumph at Chew Valley.

The Fishermen have been guaranteed entertainers in the early weeks of the season, knocking on the door with high-scoring losses to St Austell and Launceston, alongside a draw with Barnstaple.

A win was overdue, and Brixham came out roaring, notching an early penalty before Jack Dorothy crossed for a try. The lead was extended to 15-0 with a converted score from Mat Crosscombe and a Mitch Pinkus penalty added three more to the board.

A second try from Dorothy made it 25-0 before Chew finally got a score a minute before half-time. A red card for the hosts made their second-half task a lot tougher but they still mounted a stirring fightback.

The game became a little tight for Brixham at 28-22 but nerves were settled by two late penalties, and the Fishermen move on to a home meeting with leaders Exmouth on October 12.

There was a 10-24 defeat for Brixham Colts against Kingsbridge and the Sirens were overpowered by a very strong Plymstock Oaks.

Paignton are up to second in the Tribute 1 Western West division and maintained their 100% record with an impressive 48-24 success at Penryn.

Henry Hoare notched a hat-trick of tries and there were further scores from Harry Law, Brad Mckee, Alex Pozniak and Dewald Stoop, with the reliable boot of McKee adding the extras. Paignton next host third-placed Pirates Amateurs on October 12.

Paignton Colts won 59-7 at Bideford but there was a heavy defeat for the 2nds against Ivybridge.

It was another mammoth victory for Torquay Athletic in the Counties 2 Tribute Devon division, as they walloped Topsham 2nds 81-24. The Tics are sitting comfortably at the top of the table, having scored an immense 274 points from just four fixtures.

Ryan Hanauer bagged four tries, there were hat-tricks for Matt Allanson and Josh Macklin, a brace for Joel Armitage and Callum Crocker also dotted down. Lewis Crocker and Jack Akery added the kicks.

Torquay 2nds were beaten 50-22 at Plymstock Oaks 2nds.
